If you love France - self catering gites at L'Elzet are in an awesome location in the Cevennes - and more to see and do than a beach resort on the Med! A Southern France self catering holiday within 1hr of airports and trains is ideal for long weekend breaks or mid week breaks away from it all.
About L'Elzet Gites Although L'Elzet looks like a beautiful chateau holiday location it is more in the character of a Farmhouse though with private pool. For lovers of France - self catering Gites at L'Elzet are very individual and give you and your family a choice of very different self catering accommodation with character to suit you. Whether a pretty holiday cottage, romantic Tower Annexe Gite or holiday apartment with stunning views, consider us for your France holiday let or France long let out of season. You have many options to make your holiday a relaxing or exciting one. And of course, our menagarie of pet farm animals. Our tame and friendly goats all have such individual character and they can be so entertaining to watch. Pretty much everyone falls in love with our beautiful donkeys. You can take one for a walk, and have your picnic or shopping carried for you - it is a traditional thing to do in the Cevennes! A common saying from many is that they arrive as visitors and leave as friends. They soon feel completely at home and many book again straight away for the following year! There is 17 hectares (approx 36 acres) of terraced woodland, glorious vistas, garden and private swimming pool, much of which is there for you to roam. It is also just 2.5km to the crystal clear Gardon with it's beachy areas, paddling areas, excellent swimming, rock pool diving (see photo attached), and fishing. La Cascade nearby is a real haven, sheltered within a petit canyon (see photo left) and has dramatic rock formations, waterfall and well marked beautiful walks.
The village of Saint Etienne Vallee Francaise is a 1km - 1.5km walk and lies on the Stevenson Trail (GR70), the journey Robert Louis Stevenson writes about in his book "Travels With A Donkey In The Cevennes". It has friendly villagers, typical local shops, a bar-restaurant with lots of outside seating which serves good quality well-priced food. There is also a couple of other lovely restaurants, for instance, one near a swimming location. There is TENNIS and SUPERB TRAIL RIDING (or donkey for young children) from the local Equestrian Centre just through the village. Walk or ride along the local section of the Stevenson Trail and many other well marked trails. With English/French owner hospitality a definate plus you can be sure that any problem you might encounter we are there to make sure things run as smoothly as possible. You could also find you want to just lie back, with a bottle of regional wine, drink in the stunning views, and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. If you want to be really lazy you can get away with minimal cooking by eating great food and BBQ's either at L'Elzet or in the village or restaurants you encounter nearby. Of course if it is peace and privacy you want then you can have that too. Visitor feedback suggests you will be really enchanted by L'Elzet - so we hope that you choose to spend your self catering holiday, with hospitality, with us! Getting TogetherL'Elzet is particularly friendly, and offers plenty of opportunities to get together with other visitors. There is many a laugh and great food/BBQ's. for you to participate in. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby and more if you're prepared to go a little further afield. They have been recommended by visitors. Out & About in Languedoc RoussillonThe Cevennes covers a large region and includes valleys and vineyards to the South of Anduze. We are in the South East foothills of the Cevennes just 11km North of Saint Jean Du Gard. In the middle of Summer you will happily want to enjoy our beautiful part of the world and you won't feel the need to visit the Mediterrean Coast and join the holiday crowds there. You can therefore visit more of Languedoc outside of main holiday weeks, although if you stayed and enjoyed a fortnight or more you could not possibly visit everything in the Cevennes alone. However in other seasons being just 1hr 45mins from the Mediterrnean coast means we are in one of the regions which enjoy the most hours of sunshine in all of France, yet are just 1hour's drive to skiing at Mont Lozere and Mont Aguail, including dog sledging and cross country skiing.
